Documentaire van Suzanne Raes uit 2007 over de auteur Willem Elsschot, die in zijn boeken alles kon zeggen wat hij in het dagelijks leven als vader en grootvader Alfons de Ridder vermeed. In de film probeert dochter Ida De Ridder (87) de voor haar onverenigbare tegenstelling tussen de afstandelijke vader en de openhartige schrijver te overbruggen, om te begrijpen wie de man achter de schrijver Elsschot was. Dit is een verhaal over afstand en toenadering: hoe een dochter haar vader leert kennen via zijn literaire nalatenschap en in haar laatste dagen probeert het beeld wat van haar vader rest, te beschermen.
