    Famed engraver Bernard Picart and author and publisher Jean Frederic Bernard produced The Religious Ceremonies and Customs of All the Peoples of the World, which appeared in the first of seven folio volumes in 1723. They put religion in comparative perspective, offering images and analysis of Jews, Catholics, Muslims, the peoples of the Orient and the Americas, Protestants, deists, freemasons, and assorted sects. Despite condemnation by the Catholic Church, the work was a resounding success. For the next century it was copied or adapted, but without the context of its original radicalism and its debt to clandestine literature, English deists, and the philosophy of Spinoza.

    Ceremonies and Customs prepared the ground for religious toleration amid seemingly unending religious conflict, and demonstrated the impact of the global on Western consciousness. In this beautifully illustrated book, Hunt, Jacob, and Mijnhardt cast new light on the profound insight found in one book as it shaped the development of a modern, secular understanding of religion.

Het is een op ware gebeurtenissen gebaseerde roman, een aanklacht tegen de falende hulpverlening, een klassieker in de Nederlandse Literatuur en nog steeds actueel. Misschien wel het meest invloedrijke boek van Yvonne Keuls dat in 14 landen in vertaling is verschenen.

    15 jaar is Floortje op het einde van dit boek. Zij kan dan met recht zeggen: "Ik doe steeds dingen, omdat een ander het wil. Ik ben pillen gaan slikken door een ander, met kerels begonnen door een ander, naar een dealer gesleept door een ander. Maar toch kan ik niemand de schuld geven, want ik had toch 'nee' kunnen zeggen, ik kies er toch zelf voor om mee te doen.     Ex Library Copy. Hardcover, dustjacket. First published in 1903, this edition copyright by The Holland Press in 1964. Een mooi exemplaar, alleen zitten er voorin het boek een paar bibliotheek blaadjes geplakt en achterin het boek zie je dat de omslag voorheen is vastgeplakt met een cellotape. Daar zitten nog wat bruinen vlekjes, maar de schade is zeer beperkt. Van buitenaf is het niet te zien dat het een ex bibliotheek exemplaar is, omdat de omslag aan de buitenkant nog helemaal mooi en mooi rood is.
