Ramesh Ramsaran is a Trinidad and Tobago national and is Professor Emeritus at the Institute of International Relations, University of the West Indies, St Augustine. He holds a PhD degree in Economics from the University of the West Indies and is a former Professor of International. Money and Finance at the Institute of International Relations where he taught for over 30 years. Among his earlier professional experience was a stint as a Research Fellow with the then Institute of Social and Economic Research (now SALISES) at the Mona Campus of UWI. Professor Ramsaran is a former Coordinator of the then Regional Programme of Monetary Studies and also a former Director of the Centre for Money and Finance which succeeded it. Professor Ramsaran has served as a consultant to several international bodies including the World Bank, the United Nations Development Programme, the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, and the African Caribbean Pacific Secretariat in Brussels. In the late 1980s he was also a member of the National Advisory Council which acted in an advisory capacity to the Trinidad and Tobago government. Professor Ramsaran‘s research interest has centered largely on money, finance and development issues, and he has written or edited more than a dozen books on these subjects.
