Peter Cornelis Muller studeerde Nederlands aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam. Van 1965 tot 1998 werkte hij als docent Nederlands op verschillende middelbare scholen en aan politieschool De Cloese in Lochem. In 1992 debuteerde hij als schrijver met Ik leef aan de rand van de wereld. Daarna verwierf hij bekendheid met zijn columns, onder meer in Het Parool, en groeide hij uit tot een van de belangrijkste schrijvers van het zeer korte verhaal (zkv).

In 2006 verscheen, in de reeks van Stichting De Roos, L.H. en A.L. / A.L. en L.H., een gezamenlijk geschreven boek met auteur L.H. Wiener. Datzelfde jaar bracht AFdH Uitgevers zijn eerste zkv-bundel uit: Belangrijk is dat ik niet aan lezers denk. In deze bundel werden 336 zeer korte verhalen verzameld. Het boek werd geïllustreerd door zijn jongste zoon, Gijs Müller (1971), en kreeg veel lof in de media, onder anderen van NRC-recensent Pieter Steinz.

Voor zijn volledige oeuvre ontving hij in 2010 de Constantijn Huygens-prijs. Sinds 2012 wordt bovendien jaarlijks de A.L. Snijdersprijs uitgereikt voor verhalen van maximaal 220 woorden.

Snijders droeg jarenlang wekelijks een eigen zkv voor in het VPRO-radioprogramma De Avonden, totdat dit programma in december 2013 stopte. Daarnaast las hij verhalen voor in het KRO-NCRV-programma De Ochtend van 4 en was hij regelmatig te gast op literaire podia.

Vanaf 11 mei 2015 publiceerde hij iedere week een zkv in DS Weekblad, de weekendbijlage van de Belgische krant De Standaard. In datzelfde jaar stelde hij voor Nederland Leest een bloemlezing samen met veertig korte verhalen van andere auteurs, bedoeld als een staalkaart van de Nederlandse literatuur. Deze bundel verscheen in november 2015. Ook schreef hij jarenlang zkv’s voor de VPRO Gids. Hij trouwde 3 maal, had 5 kinderen en is in 2021 (op 83 jarige leeftijd) plotseling, aan zijn bureau, overleden.

De term "geheime praktijken" in relatie tot W.F. Hermans kan op verschillende manieren worden geïnterpreteerd: zowel als thema in zijn literaire werk (paranoia, spionage) als in de zin van zijn eigen, vaak polemische en stiekeme optreden tegen critici. In veel van zijn boeken, met name in De donkere kamer van Damokles, spelen geheime, duistere praktijken en spionage een centrale rol. De hoofdpersoon, Osewoudt, verricht opdrachten voor de mysterieuze Dorbeck, maar het is onduidelijk of deze praktijken echt zijn of voortkomen uit een hallucinatie. Thema: Misverstand en Chaos: In verhalenbundels zoals Paranoia en Moedwil en misverstand worden personages vaak slachtoffer van ondoorzichtige, geheime intriges en miscommunicatie. Ze proberen vergeefs orde te scheppen in een chaotische werkelijkheid. Polemische praktijken: Hermans stond bekend om zijn felle, vaak "achterkamerse" aanvallen op de culturele en literaire gevestigde orde. Hij schreef vernietigende kritieken en bespotte zijn tegenstanders (o.a. verzameld in Mandarijnen op zwavelzuur), waarbij hij niet schuwde om "geheime" of private informatie over hen te gebruiken om ze in diskrediet te brengen. De "onvoltooide" autobiografie: Hoewel Hermans veel autobiografisch materiaal in zijn boeken verwerkte, is een grootschalig, expliciet autobiografisch project er nooit gekomen, wat ook kan worden gezien als het afschermen van zijn werkelijke "geheime" leven. 

Speltherapie, culturele therapie en bewegingstherapie zijn vaktherapeutische disciplines gericht op verwerking en ontwikkeling via doen en ervaren. Speltherapie biedt kinderen een veilige omgeving voor emotionele expressie, terwijl culturele en bewegingstherapieën zich richten op creativiteit en lichaamsbewustzijn. Dr. H. van der Drift was een invloedrijke geneesheer-directeur van de psychiatrische inrichting Wolfheze (Pro Persona). In 1957 publiceerde hij een belangrijk werk over de toepassing van speltherapie, culturele therapie en bewegingstherapie in psychiatrische inrichtingen. Van der Drift speelde een grote rol in het ontwikkelen van meer zinvolle bezigheden binnen de psychiatrie, waarbij de ontmoeting tussen mannen en vrouwen tijdens het werk bijdroeg aan het herstel van een normale levenswijze. Hij publiceerde ook over de verpleging en behandeling van geestes- en zenuwzieken.

Bundeling van oud en nieuw werk van de Nederlandse dichter, geboren in 1942. Deze uitgave opent met de bundel Wapenrok. De nieuwe bundel Weerlicht is achter de voorafgaande bundels geplaatst. De chronologische volgorde, evenals de noten bij sommige gedichten, zijn het resultaat van teamwerk en als zodanig een compromis. Het verschijnen in boekvorm is als markering genomen. Weerlicht kan worden gezien als een van de uitgaven, die recent werk en eerdere bundels brengen

Met ruim vierhonderd bladzijden zeer geconcentreerd en geraffineerd taalwerk is Esther Jansma uitgegroeid tot een van de belangrijkste en meest bekroonde dichters in de moderne Nederlandstalige poezie. Een dichter in wier werk de werkelijkheid - maar dan in haar complexe, existentiële volheid waarin dood, gemis en verleden even aanwezig zijn als vitaliteit, liefde en het dagelijks nu - centraal staat. Heel dat werk vormt een hechte eenheid, wat - buiten het feit dat we spreken over een schrijverschap dat al een paar decennia bestaat - reden genoeg is voor een integrale bundeling van al haar werk. In Honor, History, and Relationship Stephen Darwall explores the idea of a second-personal framework for morality and its foundations, in which we are committed to morality by presuppositions that are inescapable when we relate to others (person to person). He expands on the argument set forth in The Second-Person Standpoint to explore the second-personal framework in three further settings. The first concerns a fundamental difference between the form that respect and the concept of person take in honor cultures, on the one hand, and the shape these assume in morality conceived as equal accountability, on the other. One essay explores this difference directly while others investigate related themes of justice versus retaliation and vengeance for insult and injury to honor, including in the writings of Adam Smith and Nietzsche on ressentiment. A second setting concerns the role of second-personal ideas in the development of a distinctively "modern" moral philosophy, beginning in seventeenth-century Europe. Two essays here discuss the centrality of second-personal notions in two formative modern natural law theorists: Grotius and Pufendorf. And two others concentrate on the role of reciprocal recognition in Kant and Fichte, respectively. A third group of essays treat the second-personal structure of interpersonal relations. There are three essays in this group: one on promising as a second-personal transaction between promiser and promisee, a second on what it is to be with another person, and a third on the role of second-personal standing in personal relationships.

Concern with authority is as old as human history itself. Eve's sin was to challenge the authority of God by disobeying his rule. Frank Furedi explores how authority was contested in ancient Greece and given a powerful meaning in Imperial Rome. Debates about religious and secular authority dominated Europe through the Middle Ages and the Reformation. The modern world attempted to develop new foundations for authority - democratic consent, public opinion, science - yet Furedi shows that this problem has remained unresolved, arguing that today the authority of authority is questioned. This historical sociology of authority seeks to explain how the contemporary problems of mistrust and the loss of legitimacy of many institutions are informed by the previous attempts to solve the problem of authority. It argues that the key pioneers of the social sciences (Marx, Durkheim, Simmel, Tonnies and especially Weber) regarded this question as one of the principal challenges facing society.

In his now classic Two Powers in Heaven, Alan Segal examines rabbinic evidence about early manifestations of the "two powers" heresy within Judaism. Stephen Darwall presents a series of essays that explore the view that central moral concepts are irreducibly second-personal, in that they entail mutual accountability and the authority to address demands. He illustrates the power of the second-personal framework to illuminate a wide variety of issues in moral, political, and legal philosophy. Section I concerns morality: its distinctiveness among normative concepts; the metaethics of 'bipolar obligations' (owed to someone); the relation between moral obligation's form and the substance of our obligations; whether the fact that an action is wrong is itself a reason against action (as opposed to simply entailing that sufficient moral reasons independently exist); and whether morality requires general principles or might be irreducibly particularistic. Section II consists of two essays on autonomy: one discussing the relation between Kant's 'autonomy of the will' and the right to autonomy, and another arguing that what makes an agent's desires and will reason giving is not the basis of 'internal' practical reasons in desire, but the dignity of persons and shared second-personal authority. Section III focuses on the nature of authority and the law. Two essays take up Joseph Raz's influential 'normal justification thesis' and argue that it fails to capture authority's second-personal nature, without which authority cannot create 'exclusionary' and 'preemptive' reasons. The final two essays concern law. The first sketches the insights that a second-personal approach can provide into the nature of law and the grounds of distinctions between different parts of law. The second shows how a second-personal framework can be used to develop the 'civil recourse theory' in the law of torts.

The book shows how, in Russia and elsewhere, terrorists' objectives have degenerated from punishment of individual adversaries and attempts to intimidate political elites to indiscriminate acts of political violence. It shifts attention from ideology to practices that had been previously hidden, ignored, or rationalized, demonstrating that what terrorists say about their motives may not be what actually drives them to brutality.
