Gojse nijd & joods narcisme, over de verhouding tussen joden en niet-joden in Nederland
Evelien Gans ;Paperback, vrijwel als nieuw
Analyzes specific antisemitic events, polemics, and publications in the Netherlands between 1987-94, preceded by a survey on the development of theological, economic, and political antisemitism. Outlines the debate at the end of 1987 aroused by plans to perform Fassbinder's play; provocative antisemitic publications (e.g. Theo van Gogh's pamphlet "Moviola", 1984); publications by the student magazines "Propria Cures" in 1992 and "Nait Soez'n" in 1993, which led to legal proceedings; and the furor following the destruction of the Auschwitz monument in January 1993. Pleads to break public silence on the trauma of the murder of 80% of Dutch Jewry in the Holocaust and the passive attitude of the Dutch authorities and the population at that time, in order to correct the overly positive image of the Dutch during World War II. Non-Jews should examine their ambivalence toward Jews (guilt, jealousy, etc.), and Jews should find a balance between their own identity and solidarity with others.
