Pp. 23-126 contain the diary of Jakobs (1925-1944), who emigrated from Oldenburg, Germany to the Netherlands in 1938 with her parents and three siblings. The diary was found by her sister Edith after the war; it is now being published for the first time. The diary covers the period 30 August 1942-1 October 1944. The members of the family all went into hiding in different towns. Rose was with an aunt, uncle, and cousin in Nijmegen. She went out into the street on 2 October 1944 and was instantly killed by bomb fragments. All the other members of the family survived.
