Subjects as Confucianism and womanhood, Buddhism and womanhood, and Japanese women and the family system are treated in this rather thorough study of cultural, ethical and religious aspects concerning women in Japan. The photographical representations show many scenes and traditional rituals from Japanese society. Written by a Dutch catholic reverend, H. van Straelen. He was supported by 2 female Japanese educational experts, Dr Tetsu Yasui and Miss Michi Kawai.
