George Sand, a biography

George Sand is perhaps best known today for her love affair with Chopin and her short lived practice of wearing trousers and a top hat. Yet she wrote over one hundred novels and plays and became one of the best known literary figures of 19th century France. The author makes no claim to assess Sand's literary merit, but offers a fresh interpretation of her life and her relationship with her family and friends.
