Deze commissie heeft onderzoek gedaan naar de besluitvorming over het Nederlandse beleid inzake Irak in de periode van de zomer van 2002 tot de zomer van 2003. Bij haar onderzoek heeft de Commissie toegang gehad tot alle relevante informatie. Voorts werden gesprekken gevoerd met alle hoofdrolspelers en met tal van andere betrokkenen. In dit rapport worden de bevindingen en conclusies van het onderzoek gepresenteerd. De Commissie maakt inzichtelijk hoe de politieke besluitvorming is verlopen. Ook schept zij helderheid in tal van discussies die de afgelopen jaren in media en politiek zijn gevoerd, zoals: welke rol hebben volkenrechtelijke overwegingen gespeeld in de besluitvorming? De grote problemen van dit moment zijn voelbaar in de zorg, het onderwijs en op straat. Grondige maatregelen blijven uit door politieke controverse en verkeerde zuinigheid.
